Food is more than sustenance; it's a language of love, memory, and connection. In this workshop, we'll explore how traditional recipes can bridge cultural divides and create a sense of belonging. I'll share stories from my Honduran heritage and guide you through preparing a simple, meaningful dish together.
Baleadas: A Taste of Honduras
Baleadas are a staple in Honduran cuisine—flour tortillas filled with refried beans, cheese, and sometimes eggs or avocado. They're simple, hearty, and perfect for sharing. Here's how we'll make them together:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 1 can refried beans
- 1 cup crumbled queso fresco
- 1 avocado, sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Add oil and warm water, kneading until smooth.
- Divide dough into 8 balls, roll each into a thin circle, and cook on a hot skillet until bubbles form.
- Spread refried beans on each tortilla, sprinkle with cheese, and add avocado slices.
- Fold in half and serve warm.
This workshop isn't just about cooking—it's about sharing stories, learning from one another, and building connections. As Frida Kahlo once said, "I paint flowers so they will not die." In the same spirit, I share these recipes so our traditions will not fade.

Join us for an evening of food, art, and community. All are welcome!
